Contrary to popular belief, an initial denial does not mean a damage claim is hopeless. There are several ways you can still raise your claim, and RaiseMyClaim’s all-star team of insurance dispute attorneys, former adjusters, and expert negotiators may be able to help.

Hurricane Damage Claim

Generally speaking, there is no such thing as “hurricane insurance,” but your homeowners policy should cover you in the event of wind damage, and you can purchase a separate policy for flood damage. You may have coverage limits and deductibles, though, which limit the amount that you will recover after a catastrophe.

Water Damage Claim

Water damage can wash away not only your home, furniture, and valuables, but also your finances. Unless your water damage was caused by a flood, it is likely covered by your standard home insurance. You may be able to file a claim for water damage caused by leaking roofs, plumbing issues, burst pipes, and overflowing appliances.

Flood insurance is usually its own policy, but even if you have coverage, the insurance company may try to avoid or delay paying you what you may be entitled to.

Hail Damage Claim

Hail damage may not sound as serious as hurricane or flood damage, but it can make a serious impact on roofs, shingles, siding, and windows. Many insurance policies distinguish between “cosmetic” and “functional” hail damage, which can make it harder to recover the money you need to make the necessary repairs.

Wind Damage Claim

Whether they are part of a hurricane, a tropical storm, or a thunderstorm, strong winds can wreak absolute havoc on your home, ripping away shutters, roof tiles, furniture, or worse. A homeowners policy should cover wind damage, but that does not necessarily mean that the insurance company will pay what you may be entitled to.

Fire Damage Claim

Fire and lightning claims are the most expensive types of damage claims. While some policies only cover damage the fire caused directly, others will cover damage from smoke and other related issues.

Unfortunately, insurance companies have been known to undervalue property damaged by fire, claim homeowners are responsible, and even accuse them of arson. If this has happened to you, contact RaiseMyClaim to see if you may be entitled to more than the insurance company has offered.

Home Vandalism Claim

If your home has been vandalized by graffiti, arson, lawn damage, smashed locks, or broken windows, your homeowners policy should cover the damage. There are exceptions, though, such as if your home was vacant for 60 or more days. You may also have a coverage limit that caps how much the insurance company will pay in the event of vandalism.
